Initial ideas

My initial ideas for my website was to keep everything simple, and to be easy for both genders and also all age ranges. I created Pinterest as I found this was the easiest to get my visual ideas down. I firstly created a board for health and fitness ( https://uk.pinterest.com/sharntalbott/health-and-fitness/ ). Surprisingly there were lots of healthy lunch ideas, specifically aimed towards children and pack lunches. Many of the health and fitness ideas included recipes and healthy cooking hacks, which could come in handy for a parent.

After looking at food ideas I started to look at children’s exercise and how a parent can exercise with their children in a fun way. Although my website isn’t about exercise, it is ultimately about living a healthy lifestyle and fitness comes with this. I found some really interesting pieces especially on how I could incorporate exercise into my website.

Proposal Form

What is the intended idea / concept behind the proposed project?

Developing my idea that parents may feel they don’t have the correct skills or find it difficult to find the best value fresh food available to them. I came up with one solution, a website, which does all of this for them.

Justify the idea / concept in terms of the needs for its existence (if purely for entertainment, state this and how the output will be innovative/original and creative):

After conducting secondary research into child obesity I found that this is a rising concern for citizens all around the world, but particularly in the UK. I found that there were many reasons why a child may become obese, whether this could be genetics or the rise in new technology. However I found that dietary habits were the main cause for child obesity. Furthermore evolving on the idea that it could be the child’s diet rather than genetics, I felt this was due to parents not knowing the correct skills, services or products available to them, to suit each individual’s financial state. My website could also go hand in hand with the governments project ‘Eat Well’ which is similar, however my website goes further in depth and is more personal to each individual. The website also filters and defines to each individuals needs.

Describe the intended audience:

From the research I gathered it suggests that the parent is in control of their child’s weight, as they are responsible for ensuring their child grows up with the correct ethics towards food. I also believe this to, I think that it is important that the parent ensures they have nurtured their child correctly so they do not fall into the vicious cycle of obesity. As the child cannot cook, does not have money to buy food, and does not yet have the knowledge of choosing what is healthy for them and what isn’t. I think it is important that as a parent they point their child in the correct direction to live a healthy happy lifestyle. My website will be aimed at all parents, and this can range from 16/17 onwards.

How will this project extend your or your team’s creative and technical skills?

This will challenge my technical skills because I have made basic websites previously using HTML coding. However I haven’t created a website to this extent, there is a lot more to think about. Especially when choosing the correct style and font which will be suitable for all ages to read and navigate. Because this is such a broad audience, the website will have to appeal to both genders and also a wide range of ages.

What other work (by animators, designers, film-makers, writers, digital media producers, etc.) is relevant to your project? (This work may either be relevant for its conceptual or technical similarity):

Shopping Lists Explained

The shopping list will be split into how many shops you have refined to. For instance if you refined your shops down to just Aldi and Tesco, you will get two separate shopping lists. One for Aldi, and one for Tesco, this will make the shopping trip stress free for the parent. At the end of the shopping list it should state you’re overall expenditure, this will be within the budget you entered at the start. See below for example:

Recipes Explained

On the schedule you’ll be able to access each days meal and the recipe for that meal. Once you have clicked on the recipe it will include all the ingredients you will need and how to make it and where to get it from, it may give you a ‘luxury’ section, this is if your budget doesn’t allow for a certain ingredients but it is not compulsory to make the meal it will be put into the luxury section. (E.g. Garlic bread). This is so the parent does have the option they can buy a few luxury items that week if they wish, however as stated above this is not compulsory. See below for a mock example of how I want the recipe and luxury section to appear: Screen Shot 2016-02-04 at 22.24.25
